Meet Ahmad Ardalan, Author of The Clout of Gen, The Gardener of Baghdad and other stories
BBB: What inspired you to become an author?
AA: I have to say it was the love of reading ever since I was a child. I remember when I was eight years old, my school in Austria that time chose Roald Dahl, as the author for that year. Reading his books, one after the other brought joy to me. The climax was when we as children, sent a letter to Mr. Dahl, and he replied back. The joy all of us felt when we gathered to read his letter. That is when, I dreamt of being an author one day to bring joy to people.
AA: The Clout of Gen, is a mystery fiction with a Sci-Fi touch. All I have to say is "What if major events in modern history were planned decades ago?" Have you ever thought of that? If the answer is yes. Read The Clout of Gen.
The Gardener of Baghdad, is a historical romance set in the golden era of Baghdad. It reflects life in two periods in time, present day Baghdad, and the 40's and 50's of this great city. Through the eyes of Ali, The Gardener of Baghdad, one can restore, the belief of hope and love even in the darkest times.
AA: Let us start with "The Clout of Gen", it all started one day, during dinner, when a subject about time travel was discussed. For a few minutes, I dazed off to a world of my own. I had always loved time travel, ever since I was a child, this interest started when I watched a re-run of a 60's TV show in the 80's called The Time Tunnel. I went back home and started writing.
The Gardener of Baghdad, was more personal. Due to the bad circumstances surrounding Baghdad, I was forced to leave in 2002, I only came back for some business in 2013. After my short visit, the daily pain of my beloved city inspired me to write this novel.
AA: I just finished two parts of my new short story thriller series "Matt". I will release "Matt Vol I" on 23/1/2015, and "Matt: Chaos in Dubai" ten days later. It follows the story of Matt, a successful entrepreneur, who returns home to his gorgeous villa, only to find his wife brutally murdered. A soft verdict against the culprits, a gang of violent teenagers, spins Matt's relatively calm and collected demeanor into something far more sinister. In a manic rage, he seeks vengeance for what has been stolen from him, and he lashes out against the weak system. Sleepless, lonely, tormented nights torture him, filling his head and his heart with frustration, hate, and anger, unleashing an entirely different side of the man--a monster even he did not know existed within him.
