Meet Alistair Cross, Author of The Crimson Corset

BBB: Tell us about yourself.

AC: In 2012, about the time my first novel was published, I began doing author interviews on my blog as a way of meeting others in the field. There, I met one of my long time heroes, Tamara Thorne. We hit it off and have since collaborated on several projects including the successful serialized Gothic novel, The Ghosts of Ravencrest, and the Amazon bestseller, The Cliffhouse Haunting. As Thorne & Cross, Tamara and I have plans to write many more books together. In addition, this month my solo novel, The Crimson Corset, is released.

BBB: What inspired your book, The Crimson Corset?

AC: The idea for this novel first took root when I got talked into going to a new nightclub with some friends a few years back. The club was a multi-level monstrosity complete with billiards, darts, bad music, and lots of booze. Disinterested in dancing and drinking, I went exploring instead.

On the third floor, I came across what I thought of as “the White Room.” It had white carpet, white sofas, and white tapestries hanging on the walls. In the center of the room, three women, scantily-clad in white, danced under strobing lights - they reminded me of vampires. And this is where I conceived of the White Room, which can be seen in The Crimson Corset. In fact, The White Room was the novel’s working title.

BBB: Tell us about your main character.

AC:
Cade Colter is a seemingly ordinary guy with some very unique traits he knows nothing about until he moves to the tourist-centric little village of Crimson Cove - and finds himself with a new set of very extraordinary problems.

On the surface, Cade is pragmatic, easygoing, and level headed. When I thrust him into this new world of monsters and waking nightmares, I was curious to see how he’d respond - and I was quite worried about him in the beginning. Fortunately, he proved himself adaptable, and I realized that beneath his mellow exterior, Cade has the grit and gallantry to do what must be done … assuming he can get past the eerily beautiful woman in the crimson corset who has developed a mysterious - and ominous - interest in him.

BBB: What are you currently working on?

AC:
Several things. Tamara Thorne and I are wrapping up The Ghost of Ravencrest’s 8th installment, Spellbound, and as early as next week, we begin our next full-length collaborative novel, a hard-hitting, fast-paced, psychological thriller we’re both stoked to kick out. Along with this, I’m beginning my next solo. Although not part of The Vampires of Crimson Cove series, this new novel takes place in a neighboring town and will feature some characters from The Crimson Corset. Though there will be no vampires in this novel, it will explore some things I’ve long wanted to dig into: Angels, demons, strip joints, natural order, murder mystery, and amnesia.

BBB: How can readers discover more about you and your work?

AC: Everything anyone needs to know about me, and then some, can be found at my website: alistaircross.com.
