Meet David Neth, Author of The Blood Moon

BBB: Tell us about yourself.

DN:
My name is David Neth. My debut novel, The Blood Moon, is finally being published after nine years of production! I started it when I was 15 and it’s the book that helped spark my interest in writing and publishing at a time when I was about to give it up. Beyond my fiction, I’m the assistant editor at a local history magazine, Western New York Heritage, where I write and edit non-fiction articles about Western New York. I also work at Petco, but that’s more or less because all of my friends work there!

What inspired your book, The Blood Moon?

DN:
The Blood Moon was inspired by my love for fantasy. Prior to starting The Blood Moon, I had written a long-winded high-fantasy epic that seemed to get lost in its own mythology. It was a mess and too complicated, but I started that book when I was 12, so I really had no idea what I was doing. It was a learning experience, but once I realized I could do better and that the story I was working on simply wasn’t working, I started a new project, which evolved into The Blood Moon and the Under the Moon series.

BBB: Tell us about your main character.

DN:
This book actually has two main characters, although the series really focuses on four. I’ll just talk about the two in The Blood Moon for now. Josh and Chris are brothers who are also witches. Josh is more mature than his brother and is very aware of the dangers of magic, while Chris is more captivated by all the potential magic has to offer. They’re both finally moving on from grieving the loss of their mother the year before and her death pushes them to keep fighting the bad guys.

BBB: What are you currently working on?

DN:
The second book in the Under the Moon series is with my editor now and I’m working on the third book in the series. I did this series a little backwards because the second and third books are actually prequels to The Blood Moon, but I think they both answer some of the mysteries that aren’t quite solved in The Blood Moon while also eluding to the dangers present in the future. I’m really excited about the new books. The Blood Moon took me nine years to complete, whereas the second book has only taken a little over a year. The third book should be done even quicker.

BBB: How can readers discover more about you and your work?

DN:
