Meet Ethan Engler, Author of Manipulated
EE: I’m a 12 year old middle-schooler from Aliso Viejo, CA. I love playing video games, spending times with friends, and playing soccer. Since 4th Grade, I’ve been writing narratives for fun and I enjoy writing altogether. I hope to travel the world when I grow up, which is part of the reason I wrote this book.
BBB: What inspired your book, Manipulated?
EE: In 6th Grade, I had stopped most of my extracurricular activities. At the beginning of 7th Grade, I started feeling like a wasted talent after seeing what others could do, so I decided to do something about it. I also was absolutely obsessed with travel at the time, and I hoped that writing a book would help fund a trip to the other side of the world.
EE: I have two main characters, actually: Drake and Julia. Drake is a brave, ambitious young man from San Francisco who is sick of his boring life. He falls in love with Julia and shows his true courage, cleverness, and weakness throughout the story. Julia is a kind young woman who falls in love with Drake. However, as she experiences more and more awful things, she develops a fierce side and isn’t afraid to kill in order to do the right thing. They both change in character throughout the plot and discover character traits in themselves that they could never imagine.
BBB: What are you currently working on?
EE: My book was just recently published so I will not be working on another book for a while. However, I’m constantly thinking of ideas for a sequel or even a prequel.
BBB: How can readers discover more about you and your work?
EE: People can learn more about me and my work by contacting me through my publisher, Christine F. Anderson (CFA). My parents and I are currently setting up social media accounts for the book, which you can find out about (once again) through my publisher.
