BBB: What inspired you to become an author?
KJ: A broken finger. It’s hard to garden or golf with your left hand in a cast, so I looked for a different creative outlet. The glimmer of a scene from Armed With Steele came to me one night, so I sat down at my computer and gave it a go. After many months of writing, a dozen revisions, and lots of “how to write a novel and get published” research, AWS was “born.”
KJ: I knew I wanted to keep writing romantic suspense, and Fort Wayne was such a great setting for AWS. And since everyone loves a man in uniform, I shifted my attention to the Fire Department. As for the massage therapist heroine, I have a really good friend I go see once a month for that and wanted a way to showcase her profession. Because seriously, I don’t know that I’d be able to function—mentally or physically—as well as I do without her.
BBB: What other books have you written?
KJ: Armed With Steele is the first book in my Hometown Heroes collection. It follows introverted website designer Jessica Hartley as she pairs with handsome patrolman Nate Steele to work undercover and solve the mystery surrounding her best friend’s near-fatal accident. I’ve also completed the first book in a new contemporary romance series, and am working to get that published as well.
KJ: The third book in the Hometown Heroes collection, with a working title of “Against the Flow”. For all those Charlie fans out there, your wait is nearly over…
BBB: How can readers discover more about you and your work?
