BBB: What inspired you to become an author?
SS: I started my first novel when I was 12 because I loved science fiction at that time and couldn’t find a novel that covered what I was interested in reading. My dream was always to have an entire shelf devoted to books I’d written. Now, I have two shelves full and it’s still a wonderful feeling to see the books lined up.
SS: I wrote a book a couple of years ago that served as a guide to the novels of Michael Connelly. As I read his detective novels, I wondered what it would be like to have a female version of Harry Bosch. At the same time, I became interested in the paranormal element in mysteries. Rather than a horror story or a vampire story, I wanted to have a different kind of spirit, one that wouldn’t frighten people. I also wanted to probe the question of life after death as well as the question of how much control people have over their own destinies.
BBB: Tell us about your main character.
SS: Frankie Ryan is haunted by several incidents in her childhood. She has a very strong sense of justice and has made it her mission in life to put away criminals. Her single-minded devotion to her job as well as her quick rise up the ranks cost her. She’s divorced now and would love to find someone someday. One of her major strengths is her ability to evaluate people and show them empathy.
SS: Not very often. I’m usually working on a couple of books at a time, generally in different genres. So, when I run into a roadblock with one book, I turn my attention to the other book. Because I
tend to dream very vividly almost every night, I have a lot of material to draw upon.
BBB: What are you currently working on?
SS: I just completed the sequel to Silent Partner. I’m currently working on a sequel to my best-selling Amazon children’s book that I co-write with my grandson (Journey to a Different Dimension). I’m also working on a book I’m co-writing with my granddaughter (Jane Blond, International Spy). Finally, I’m 3/4 of the way through a science fiction novel about an affair a human has with an alien.
BBB: How can readers discover more about you and your work?
SS: One place is my website, www.StanSchatt.com. Readers can also Google me. I spent many years as a futurist and technology analyst, and there are lots of interviews online where I’m asked about different technologies.
