About the Book

Title: Song of the Storm
Author: Mariam Kobras
Genre: Contemporary Fiction
Number of Pages: 297
Synopsis: Winner, Silver 2014 Independent Publisher's Book Award
When dreams come true for some and worlds crash for others, when friendships are tested and true love is found at last--that is the Song of the Storm.
The conclusion of the award-winning Stone Trilogy brings the love story of Jon and Naomi full circle; with some things lost and some things gained, they discover the true value of love and family, and the high cost of survival in our world today.

BACK COVER EXCERPT

"With a sigh, he turned around. There she was: Naomi, a slender, fragile woman with fair skin and black, curly hair, big, dark eyes, and a lovely mouth, the vision of all his dreams, the heart of all his songs, his reason for being alive. He could close his eyes, and his hands would be able to trace her shape in the air, every curve and angle, every breath. . . .
They had come so far, through so many trials, and here they were, in calm waters, as if every song of the storm had been sung, and were only memories now."

My Review

Song of the Storm is the final book in the award winning Stone Trilogy Series by Mariam Kobras and is a wonderfully written and compelling read.

Jon's touring days come to an end and new projects are on the horizon for the couple. They finally reach the point in their lives where they can truly enjoy being husband and wife. Jon is actually looking forward to the mundane everyday things, but Naomi has an amazing secret that will change their lives for the better. Naomi also makes amends with her father and life couldn't be more beautiful, but when the September 11 tragedies strike in full view of the Stone mansion their lives will never be the same. Can the couple weather another storm?

Song of the Storm was my favorite book of all (except for the fact that it is the last in the series). I loved that Jon and Naomi were finally able to enjoy the happiness they sought for so long. I was also happy that Sal found a love interest that wasn't Naomi. Like the other two books, Song of the Storm is a captivating read with appealing characters and intriguing plot. The author also does an exceptional job of capturing the dramatic and emotional moments of 9-11. A time in history that touched so many worldwide and one that will never be forgotten. I love that Song of the Storm is simply a story about people finding themselves and discovering all life has to offer.

I highly recommend picking up a copy. Available on Amazon.

OmegaCity
Gillian Seagret doesn’t listen to people who say her father’s a crackpot. Enlisting the help of her skeptical younger brother, Eric, her best friend, Savannah, and Howard, their NASA-obsessed schoolmate, Gillian sets off into the ruins of a vast doomsday bunker, deep within the earth. But they aren’t alone inside its dark and flooded halls. Now Gillian and her friends must race to explore OMEGA CITY and find the answers they need. WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING

  • “With seamless writing, a thrilling plot, lots of engaging science puzzles, and remarkable characterization, Peterfreund's exciting tale keeps the adventure solidly in the foreground. Young readers looking for a page turning quest should get into this planned series on the ground floor." — Booklist *Starred* Review "Peterfreund's focus on character development is complemented by the equal attention she gives to the vast underground city itself. Gillian’s instincts to protect her friends and clear her historian father’s tarnished name are admirable, but Peterfreund gives every character the opportunity to grow, revealing themselves for who they really are."— Publishers Weekly “With nonstop action, sly humor, and nothing short of the end of the world at stake, Omega City is the alpha book in a new series that mashes up mystery, scifi, and action/adventure into a thrilling novel you’ll want to devour in one sitting. I did, and I can’t wait to read what comes next!” — Peter Lerangis, New York Times Bestselling author of the Seven Wonders series “Peterfreund’s boundless imagination takes on a new and exciting adventure!” – Jessica Day George, New York Times Bestselling author of Tuesdays at the Castle” “Diana Peterfreund takes us to an underground city that’s utterly mind-blowing, yet disturbingly possible. A knockout of a story that will have readers cheering straight through to the final, shocking, twist.” — #1 New York Times bestselling author Gordon Korman

About the Book

Title: Wicka: The Chronicles of Elizabeth Blake
Author: Christy Deveaux
Genre: Young Adult Fantasy & Magic
Number of Pages: 305
Synopsis: Elizabeth Blake is a seventeen-year-old girl from Ann Arbor, Michigan. Although a bit of an introvert, she has always had good, close friends. She lived next door to her best friend Gwyneth. Gwyneth’s mother, Clara Hill, was like a second mother to Elizabeth. When Mrs. Hill died, Elizabeth was devastated. She found the perfect opportunity to escape by completing her final year of high school in the south of France.
Soon after her arrival in France, Elizabeth befriends Sophie, her allocated roommate. Sophie introduces Elizabeth to some of her schoolmates from her posh boarding school in England. Elizabeth meets and falls in love with William Shaw, an English boy from a traditional family. William and Sophie are childhood friends. As such, everyone, including their families, expects them to end up together. But, William never shared Sophie’s feelings.
That Christmas, William invites Elizabeth to stay with his family. Through a series of strange occurrences, Elizabeth discovers that the Shaws are witches and that she, too, is a witch—a descendant of the Harlow family, one of the oldest and most powerful witch families to ever exist. Elizabeth’s oma was the last known surviving ancestor, but she was forced to go into hiding to protect herself and her children.
Meanwhile, the Elders—the most powerful coven of witches in the world—have been tracking Elizabeth since her birth. According to an ancient legend, a battle led by “One barely born existing to lead” would cause the downfall of the Elders. Fearing that Elizabeth is the heir to this legend, the Elders try to destroy her before she can bring it to fruition.
With the help of both the Shaw family and her oma, Elizabeth travels to Greece to prove to the Elders that she is not a threat and to ask for their permission to live in peace.
With spring break approaching, Elizabeth’s family surprises her with plane tickets home for both her and William. A pit of nerves, she is both excited and scared to show William the one aspect of her life that he hasn’t yet infiltrated. She is also unnerved at the prospect of having to explain to Gwyneth that she is the reason for her mother’s death.
While home, Elizabeth makes a most anticipated visit to her oma’s house—her first visit since discovering that she was a witch. During this visit, Elizabeth’s oma shows her family heirlooms that she has been collecting and concealing over the years.
It is during this visit that Elizabeth’s oma promises to confide secrets and powers in Elizabeth once she masters the skill of blocking her mind. Elizabeth also discovers that a “Shadow” has been following her, watching her every move, and reporting back to the Elders.
Upon their return to school, William asks Elizabeth to go on a trip to Nice with him for Easter break—just the two of them. Their lack of experience but complete love for each other ushers them into romantic situations that they neither are ready for, nor have previously discussed. With temptation at every turn, they must figure out what they want and whether or not they are ready to take their relationship to the next level.
Left with the devastating revelation that they would be torn away from each other once the school year ends, William and Elizabeth need to devise a plan if they hope to stay together. When Sophie learns about their plan, she is outraged. While visiting the Shaws, Sophie attacks Elizabeth, giving the Shadow an opportunity to act on behalf of the Elders’ instructions to destroy Elizabeth so that she cannot fulfill the prophecy.
The battle that brings to light powers that weren’t known to exist before, brings William and Elizabeth closer together at the very moment that they have to say good-bye.

My Review

Wicka is the fantastical tale of an average high school student who decision to finish her senior year abroad catapults her into a world dominated by legends, witchcraft, and sinister plans.

After the devastating loss of someone she was very close to, Elizabeth needs to escape the crushing memories and sadness that are consuming her. She decides to finish high school in France where she meets and immediately falls for a handsome rugby player named William Shaw. The pair become inseparable and William invites Elizabeth to spend Christmas break with him and his family in England. Elizabeth instantly loves his family and the special bond William shares with them, but when she discovers they're witches, and she is as well, her life is turned upside down. She learns of a legend, a family secret, and ruthless Elders who want nothing more than to destroy Elizabeth and her family. With the help of William and the rest of the Shaw clan, she learns to control her magic, but is it enough to beat the Elders and fulfill the legend?

Wicka is an enthralling read complete with mesmerizing magic and a romantic twist. The well-developed characters are credible and the author's ability to intertwine magic and witchcraft into the everyday lives of her characters makes the story believable. The story was fast paced and the alluring plot kept me glued to the pages. Wicka is an all around enjoyable young adult read. I'm looking forward to another book in The Elizabeth Blake Chronicles.

I recommend picking up a copy. Available on Amazon.

Evil poisons everyone. Period. Our mouths water when we sink our teeth into what we have always craved. Surrendering to our desires by biting off delectable piece of the forbidden fruit is nothing more than a meager confession: Poison tastes sinfully sweet,”—Confessions of the Big Apple Debutante, by blogger Miss Snow White.

I specialize in dark, paranormal romance – think “happy ever after” but with a twisted, dark chocolate center. Real-life romance isn’t only filled with hugs, kisses, unicorns, and rainbows. True-love can be more thoroughly described in times of darkness and tribulation. It’s in those harsh moments where you see what a person is truly capable of – both the good and bad. Sometimes prince-charming isn’t always on time, and the glass slipper is a little snug. However, it doesn’t mean Charming is not Mr. Right, and who says every shoe is the perfect fit?

My Writing Process by Linda M. Crate

Picture
People have asked me all my life how I write. I always find that an interesting question because I don't really have a process. I just turn on my music and have at it. Sometimes sad songs conjure up the most beautiful love scenes and angry music gives life to tragedy and the happy songs lead to battles. I'm not quite sure how it works, but I know music has always moved me and I love having an intimate relationship with words.

To me it's natural as breathing. It's just something I have to do, need to do.

I didn't choose writing, it chose me. I'm glad it did. I always find it fascinating where my imagination takes me and all these characters that jump into my mind are always worth the journey I embark on when I start writing their stories. Sometimes I discover more about them but I always discover more about myself and I always strive to make sure there's truth because to me there has always been more honesty in fiction than nonfiction.

Characterization has always been important for me. Plot is important, but you can't have weak characters. To me that just collapses everything and it will be the one reason I walk away from a book. I usually struggle through even if I don't particularly like a book just to see what happens to the characters, but if I can't relate or don't like any of your characters there's just no reason for me to read it. So I try to to flesh out my characters and make them like people. Because if they're like your best friend or your mother or your uncle then maybe your interest will remain piqued through the entire novel.

About the Book

Picture
Title: Smile & Succeed for Teens: Must-Know People Skills for               Today's Wired World
Author: Kirt Manecke
Genre: Teen Self-Help
Number of Pages: 144
Synopsis:
In today's wired world, cell phones and other electronics, texting, and email are a reality. This makes having great people skills even more important. Smile & Succeed for Teens is based on my award-winning first book, Smile: Sell More with Amazing Customer Service, winner of 8 awards.

With input from a variety of teens, educators, and parents, I created a customized version of Smile just for teens. Like my first book, the tips and techniques are based on the same proven customer service and sales methods used by successful businesses all over the world. These techniques will help teens make more friends and earn more money. In addition, I've added valuable information on finding and keeping a job, overcoming stress, and the benefits of volunteering. These important life skills for teens ensure they succeed in school, work, and life.

Good social skills for teens are essential for landing a job and succeeding in a career. Getting a job can be very challenging and frightening for teens. My award-winning book Smile & Succeed for Teens helps teens stand out during a job interview and get the job. It will help make a teen a superstar employee--the type companies jump through hoops to have on their team.

Communication skills are among the top skills businesses expect when interviewing and hiring. Employers everywhere are saying that young people lack the people skills critical to be successful at work. Smile & Succeed for Teens provides teens with a quick, easy way to learn and master the people skills critical to their success in school, work, and life.

Do you have a shy teenager? Is your teen uncomfortable talking with adults or others? Smile & Succeed for Teens provides the words and methods for shy teens to feel self-confident and comfortable talking with others. The perfect teen stocking stuffer, graduation gift, and everyday gift.

My Review

Smile and Succeed for Teens is a potentially life changing must-read for teens. The book is full of valuable tips and information designed to help today's youth develop skills imperative for their success in dealing with employers, customers, family, and friends.

The author wastes no time with fluff or padding, which in my opinion can cause readers, especially boys, to quickly loose interest, instead he dives right in with The Top Ten People Skills. If your teen decides to employ any techniques from this book, The Top Ten People Skills should be it. In this short chapter teens are taught how to smile, make good eye contact, shake hands firmly, introduce themselves, ask questions, use proper body language, just to name a few. A host of other topics are covered in the subsequent chapters like dealing with customers, applying for jobs, and the importance of volunteer work.

The priceless information covered is presented in an easy straightforward and concise manner, perfect for today's busy teens or reluctant readers. In just 144 pages, the author provides readers with a vast amount of advice that is an asset to their future success. I was so impressed with this book that I have already order additional copies for each of my teenagers and have recommended it to friends and family raising teens.

I highly recommend picking up a copy of Smile and Succeed for Teens. You and your teen will be thankful you did. Available on Amazon.
