Humpfree The Humpless Camel Book Review

Humpfree The Humpless Camel
~Written by Julia Dweck
~Illustrated by Young-Min Yoon
Picture
Book Synopsis

"Now Humpfree Camel had no humps.
His back was free of any lumps.
While others had one bump or two,
Just where were Humpfree’s? No one knew."

Humpfree’s back is as flat as a pancake and he’s not taking it lying down. He’s off on a wild search looking for his humps, but there are lots of bumps along the way. What would you do if you were a humpless, bumpless camel?

Readers will enjoy the humor and rhyme of this adventure, based on scientists’ true discovery of a new flat back camel species in East Africa. Young explorers will be fascinated by Mrs. Dweck’s true and amazing fun facts about camels. It all adds up to one edutaining adventure for young readers.

Book Review

Julia Dweck uses witty rhyme in her new book, Humpfree The Humpless Camel, to teach children to embrace the characteristics that make them unique.

Unlike the other camels, Humpfree is missing his humps. He sets out on a comical adventure to find humps he can call his own, but nothing seems to fit just right. Humpfree tries balloons that cause him to float away, boulders that weigh him down, feathers that tickle, and much more, but soon gives up in despair. Will Humpfree ever discover how rare and special he really is?

The illustrations by Young-Min Yun are rich and vibrant, adding to the story's humor. My favorite image is when Humpfree lands pancaked in the sand after the balloons fail. Children and parents will be delighted with the illustrator's lighthearted creations.

Children learn that each of us posses our own special qualities that should be celebrated because it's these unique traits that make us one of a kind.

I highly recommend picking up Humpfree the Humpless Camel. Available for pre-order on Amazon.

Book Review

More Cheese Please is a playfully amusing story that entertains readers through humor and rhyme. Felicity is a sweet toddler who has a great love for cheese, but when all the cheese is eaten a loud tantrum ensues. A cry for "more cheese please!" is heard throughout the town and mayhem takes over. "The center of town was a mess and amuck. Animals, traffic, and people were stuck." The mayor wants the chaos to end and asks the town for help. Will anyone come to the rescue before it's too late?

The illustrations are whimsical and appeal to young readers through eye-catching colors and engaging characters. I fell in love with the chubby little farm animals that escape during Felicity's outburst.

I highly recommend picking up More Cheese Please. It a story children can enjoy again and again. Available from KiteReaders at Amazon.com.

North of Supposed to Be
~Written by Marcia Ferguson
Picture
Book Synopsis

Bronwyn McCall, an elite portrait photographer, is critically wounded while rescuing the sons of the Israeli prime minister. As she recovers, former MI6 agent Ernest Rose enters her life and becomes her Jeeves, both faithful sidekick and father figure. With gratitude, the prime minister’s family gives Bronwyn their coastal Maine estate and the abandoned Bayside Blanket and Toboggan Factory, but it takes a massive fortune, acquired in the most bizarre manner, to launch second chances and the dream homes of her imagination. (Amazon.com)

Book Review

North of Supposed to Be is a vividly detailed novel about the unpredictable life of a young woman named Bronwyn McCall and her desperate struggle to overcome the loneliness that plagues her.

As a young child, Bronwyn losses both of her parents and younger sister in a tragic plane crash. The accident leaves Brownwyn all alone in the world and although she is cared for she never experiences the happiness a loving family brings. Bronwyn surrounds herself with many friends from all over the world, but she never seems to fully trust others and fears the closeness committed relationships offer. She often finds imperfections in others and manages to sabotage her chances for joy.

The story takes place in several cities across the United States as well as around the world. The author goes into great detail describing people and places which effectively allows readers to experience the story as it unfolds before them. Many scenes have the array of characters enjoying delectable entrees and desserts and the author's vast knowledge of other cultures and customs is evident .

North of Supposed to Be is a mix of mystery, romance, and aha moments which create a fascinating novel that I found difficult to put down. I recommend picking up a copy. Available at Amazon.com.

Book Synopsis

Searching for his missing family, a little bee learns important lessons about friendship, cleanliness and good order.

Book Review

The Bees are Missing! is a beautifully illustrated and charming book that teaches children the importance of helping others as well as learning to be responsible.

The animals have gathered for picture day, but the excitement in the air soon turns to concern when a little bee exclaims, "My family is missing!" The animals comfort the little bee and vow to help him search for his family. When they decide to check his room in the hive they discover a giant mess. Will the little bee and his friends solve the mystery of his missing family?

I found the story engaging. The animals are cheery and colorful and it is easy to fall in love with the sweet little bee. The book also has an audio feature making it easy for beginning readers to follow along. The Bees are Missing! is a story children will enjoy hearing again and again.
