Magelica's Voyage

Picture
Magelica's Voyage by Louise Courey Nadeau is a beautifully written enchanting tale filled with alluring adventure.

Magelica is a young girl, who hatched from a brilliant sapphire egg. She was given the name Magelica because her birth was magic and she had an angelic face and lovely wings. Magelica also had a silver feather, which she learns contains magic. Whisked away in the night by a warblegrif, Magelica sets out on an fascinating adventure in search of the Isle of Dreams. She is told the island can be found on a turtle's back. The turtle needs Magelica's help to overcome his great sadness, but unable to see the  magic contained within herself Magelica is unsure she can help.

Queen Raya's words of wisdom, "you are what you make of yourself," not only help Magelica realize that life's true magic is in her heart, but teach children that the same is true for them as well.

The story is magnificently illustrated, from the winsome depiction of Magelica to the creative Isle of Dreams, the authors gifted imagination is prevalent on every page.

I found Magelica's Voyage to be a charming story with a very special message for all. I highly recommend picking up a copy.

The Rescue

Picture
In Magelica's Voyage: The Rescue the magic continues when Magelica has an enlightening dream about Prince Will and Goldy. She knows she must summon the power of the magic feather and relay her dream to Will's mother, Queen Raya. After Magelica bravely retells her dream Queen Raya determines that Will is stranded on the Isle of Darkness. But, with Will gone the Isle of Dreams has been somber and the Turtle isn't moving. Can Magelica help the Turtle find happiness and rescue Prince Will?

The Rescue is a delightfully charming tale full of exciting adventure and heartwarming fun. I love the vibrant and creative characters that fill the pages and entice readers. The encouraging words throughout the tale inspire readers to never give up and to find joy in life. I adore the colorful and alluring illustrations which only add to the magic.

I highly recommend picking up a copy of The Rescue. It's certain to become a fast favorite for parents and children alike.

"A New World," takes place directly after the cliffhanger of "Vampire World," left off. Janice FreeCut, a human turned vampire, has just grown accustomed to drinking blood and living her life on the strange new planet of Vampire World. But now she must go to Earth, and attempt to save the planet from an alien invasion of bloodthirsty vampires. Rapidly she will soon discover that her life on Earth will never be the same, because she is a vampire; in other words her beloved high school life of popularity and prestige is gone, and she has certainly grown-up indeed!

"A New World," is intended to be a thriller, with romance of course because her boyfriend Brett BloodCut has returned. However, a love triangle develops because of a new character named Jeff, a towering, 6'6 chump vampire with an attitude.

"A New World," is not just all about vampire slaying. It is about growing up and leaving the comfortable past behind. It is about adjusting to the challenges that life throws at you, and being strong enough to accept those challenges without backing down in fear.

I hope you all enjoy this thriller!

Zoey Daniels has been tossed from foster home to foster home, where she grows up fast and tough. When she is placed in her “last-chance” home, she finds a reason to stay and turn her life around: her foster sister, Lexie, who is paralyzed and confined to a wheelchair. Zoey will do anything to keep her safe. After high school, Zoey is hired by a special government agency, the Department of Molecular Genetics (DMG), where she meets the other reason to remain: Daniel, her co-worker. The man she loves. But there is something unique about Zoey. She can see fae. Because of this, the DMG hires her to work as a Collector: catching, researching, testing, and using the fae to save human lives. The work never registers on her sympathy radar. She was raised to think of fae as beasts that feed on humans and want to destroy them. When devastation hits Seattle, Zoey's whole world is turned upside down. The electric storm connects her to a ruthless fae, a Wanderer named Ryker, whose dealings expose them to even more trouble and danger. They embark on a journey, running and hiding from both the government and fae, both of which threaten their lives and those they love.

My Review

Second Hand Stops is an incredibly mesmerizing novel that captivates readers with complex characters and a unique plot.

When Julia was just three-years-old she was dropped off at an English Manor and would never see her family again. Five other children join Julia at the manor and the six of them discover they all posses telepathic abilities. When the children reach the age of eighteen they are given an elixir to prolong their lives and promised wealth to surpass anything they could have ever imagined. The group finds themselves changing as the elixir enhances their abilities. Now, they must travel to New York with their benefactor and work for his company. Julia, who has always been curious, thinks there more going on than meets the eye and she's determined to uncover the truth, but at what cost?

Second Hand Stops is a fantastic coming of age fantasy. The rich characters, hidden truths, and romantic exploits are just a few aspects readers will find intriguing. The author has a vivid imagination and portrays it effectively in her writing. I found the story to be well written and believable. Julia's romantic attraction to Nic and Sebastian's infatuation with Julie is one love triangle not to be missed.

I literally could not put the book down and am now well into the second one. I highly recommend checking out The Van Burens series.

When Kira finds herself tempted to touch will she remain faithful to her husband or yield to the desires of her flesh?

excerpt

When I rounded the corner Meena, my secretary, was standing in front of her desk smiling and waving at me. Her attentiveness and bright smile cut right into my investigation into why my marriage was beginning to fail. “Hi, Meena. Did you miss me?” I asked, referring to the way she was waiting to greet me like a lap dog. “Mrs. Seagram, you’re so funny,” she said, swiping her wispy brunette hair out of her eyes. “I’m so excited to see you because I can’t wait to see the look on your face when you go into your office.” “Ugh.” I groaned, letting my arms droop at my sides. “You didn’t redecorate again, did you?” “No. While you were at lunch you received a delivery and it’s mighty extravagant. I hope that after I’ve been married for ten years my husband still does things like Mr. Seagram.” “Thank you, Meena. I’m sure it’s nothing out of the ordinary,” I said as I walked past her desk. I turned the knob and my stomach dropped to my heels. On the other side of the door a tall medley of flowers and fruit curled into a G clef awaited me. A smile spread across my face as I approached this massive fruit salad structure. I fingered the petals of the black orchids and inspected the assortment of fruits—pineapple chunks, mangoes, and strawberries covered in white chocolate. All of my favorite things were neatly assembled on my desk. Mason must have thought there was another dog sniffing around his backyard. “Excuse me,” I said to Meena who was still standing in the doorway gawking at the flowers as I picked up the phone and dialed Mason’s cell phone number. He probably thought this massive floral arrangement would get me to join the choir and keep my affections at home. I would have preferred some new shoes. Shoot, for a new pair of Fendi pumps I’d churn out “I Go to the Rock” in a heartbeat and have them saints running up and down the aisle of our church in a minute. “Praise the Lord!” Mason shouted into the phone when he answered. Why did he have to be all holy all the time? “Hello, Mason.” “What’s going on, my love? You usually don’t call me in the middle of the day.” “You tell me what’s going on, Mason. Do you think that a little gallant gesture and some white chocolate will get me to work on the record with your choir?” “What are you talking about?” “You know exactly what I’m talking about. The floral arrangement—” “Floral arrangement?” he queried, cutting me off. “If you thought that an oversized wreath would get me to sing with that little gospel choir of yours, you’re wrong.” “Kira, I did not send you any floral arrangement.” Half listening to his spiel, I dug my hand into the center of the arrangement and removed the card. Without your voice my music is all blues and no rhythm. ~Q I read the message again and flashes of heat coursed through my fingers. His vulnerability was sexy. Quincy McAdams had gone from a chemistry major to a music mogul and his life was still missing something. The words on the card spoke louder to me than Mason until he shouted into the receiver, “Well, where did the flowers come from? I will not ask again.”   About the Author lockley_author_photo.jpeg

When I met my wife, had children, and my career sky-rocketed, I thought I’d never revisit those dark days again. So, the moment Blue Hill, Maine beckons for me, I go willingly in an effort to write the next big story. Will I be able to sift through what’s fiction to find reality? Eli - I’m a serial killer. A victim of narcissism and the need to satisfy my own urges. New York Times and USA Today bestselling author, Henry McElroy, is my god. His sick, twisted mind constructs the world to which I rule. I would be nothing without him—my dark creator. *** What happens when Henry McElroy’s story begins to take a realistic form the moment he sets foot in the sleepy, seaside town in Maine? As soon as he begins sharing excerpts of his book with his fans on social media, including an obsessive one he meets in Blue Hill, bodies begin to stack up in similar fashion to that of which he writes about. The Creation of Becoming
Guest Post by David A. Bradbury

The genesis for Becoming began whilst I was lying on a hospital bed awaiting imaging results on a neurological condition. At that time, I was having great difficulty walking and my sensory perception and cognitive functioning were distorted. I was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, and subsequently with epilepsy. During those dark times, my worldview was irrevocably changed. I’d always been an avid reader and wrote short stories and poetry for personal consumption. However, being essentially bed-ridden during the early phase of the conditions left me plentiful time to cogitate. Never being one to stray into negativity, I put my dark thoughts into a template, and turned such ideation into a story.

Initially called Darklight, a term that typified my fluctuating worldview at the time, the main character in Becoming (William Kerry) is a hybrid of my personal experiences. The first three chapters were written whilst my body and mind were still coming to grips with the changes taking place within. Not only did the MS and epilepsy bring me face-to-face with mortality, but they also expanded my horizons, led my thinking into places before unknown.

Never having written a novel before, the initial drafts (of Darklight) read more like storyboards, each chapter a mini-story in its own right. This process of linking sub-stories continued when I revisited Darklight (now, Becoming) at the end of 2013. My perceptual style has always been visually and auditory oriented. I write things as I see them in my mind’s eye; and dialogue as I hear it in my inner ear. This makes for fluid production if the content is somewhat erratic at times. To this end, the editor I chose to check through the manuscript commented on how my writing style would lend itself both to a fiction novel and/or a visual storyboard. This disconcerted me at first because I wouldn’t want the reader to become confused: Is this guy writing a novel or does he have aspirations to be the next Tarantino? The truth is that Becoming is first and foremost a fiction novel. It is purely coincidental, and certainly not intentional, that it may also lend itself to visual (e.g., cinematic) interpretation.
This leads me onto my second point regarding the editing process. My writing style incorporates a greater number of adverbs than usual—I think one per every 300 words is recommended—and a greater number of pronouns. Whilst this style of writing is eschewed by some purists, I was heartened to read an article by Martina Cole in Writers Magazine (2015), where she espoused “Why write like someone else? Write like yourself.” So I trimmed the number of adverbs and pronouns, whilst leaving the manuscript retaining my style. It was re-edited, and all camps were happy. To this end, I think it important to, within reason, stick to your guns as far as editing is concerned. If you’re not careful, the manuscript can lose its core identity, that which made you excited enough to spend countless hundreds of hours buried away from loved ones. Having said that, always take editors/proofreaders comments on board. For the majority of the time, their comments are pertinent and will help you develop and hone your manuscript into a leaner machine. However, by the same token, remain true to yourself. Unless you’re physically sat down with an editor/proofreader and can explain your reasoning for how certain passages of text read as they do, they will always be trying to second guess.

Taking the above two points into consideration, despite having to rewrite/trim various sections of Becoming, on numerous occasions, I’m satisfied with the final product. Not 100%, because I feel that through the editing process a small part of what made Becoming (nee, Darklight) mine, has been lost. That is, as this is my first novel and essentially contains a lot of me, I feel a tad aggrieved at having to censor my output. But, I’ve come to realise that you can’t be too possessive, emendments are suggested for positive reasons; and, to be truthful, after editing/proofreading, the manuscript is much easier to follow, and is a far tighter, more slick piece of work.

Taking chances isn’t something Lydia Bell is used to. She had always left that up to the confident and adventurous characters in her books. Well, before her best friend, Ann, insisted that Lydia get her nose out of her silly little romance novels and start living life to the fullest. At the yearly Christmas Ball, she agrees to a wager that would seize the constant urging of her friend. She has to find her real life Romeo and kiss him before the night is over. There’s only one problem . . . she’s never been kissed. Benedict Harper: tall, handsome, and debonair. The town rebel and, not to mention, Lydia’s childhood crush, is her target. Following him outside, under the cover of darkness, she makes her move. There is no denying the burning desire they feel during the kiss. But, once she makes her identity known, she doesn’t quite get the reaction she was hoping for. Returning to the ball, the two are spotted and the gossip about the scandal burns throughout the town. Taking destiny into her hands that night was a big mistake and Ben is urged to leave town. For ten years Lydia is pained with guilt and wonder. That’s until she runs into a dashing naval captain who leaves her, once again, breathless . . . her Benedict Harper. A Christmas Scandal is an exciting introduction to Ashley Stowe's new string of Christmas novellas about taking hold of destiny! The book also includes an extended excerpt of her debut full-length novel, Hope Embraced: Book One of The Hearts of Caledonia Series.

Ashley Stowe

Facebook | Goodreads | Amazon Author Page

By day, Ashley Stowe is an administrative specialist. By night, she's a writer. Her love for Historical Fiction and Christian Romance novels has fed her desire to put pen to paper and bring her readers on a ride into the exhilarating world that she has created. One of innocence, steamy first loves and feisty characters. Ashley grew up as a “military brat”, but she’d correct you and say she is "set in her ways and well-traveled”. She spent much of her childhood traveling the United States, never really having the chance to call one place her home for very long. Home now, is Nebraska where she lives with the love of her life, Josh and their fur-kid, Mya.

Synopsis:Dating can be a drag and navigating the dangerous waters of relationship building can lead you on a journey to teenage catastrophe. How can a girl successfully make it through unscathed? Well, super teenage mentor Lauren Galley has the solution. Kissing Frogs: In Search of Prince Charming is the follow up to her #1 Amazon Bestseller smash debut Steps to Success An Empowerment Guide Girls Above Society, where Lauren gives you the tips and advice you need to help you safely land on the other side and find happiness.
Within in these twelve chapters, Lauren shares her experience in the ups and downs, highs and lows, peaks and valleys of what the average girl experiences in the game of dating and stresses the importance of loving and being yourself; letting people know the real you so that you’ll never have to live up to the expectations of someone you’re not. She outlines the quality traits that mark the difference between frogs and princes and puts you in the best position to achieve dating euphoria.

Kissing Frogs: In Search of Prince Charming is an absolutely wonderful guide for teen girls. Lauren shares her own experiences with boys which are often humorous and never short of inspiring lessons. She teaches girls to respect themselves and their bodies so others will do the same. Teens also learn the importance self-worth and creating their own happiness long before starting a relationship with someone else.

The book is told in an easy to follow narrative, making is simple for readers to grasp and apply the lessons learned. Teens will be able to use Kissing Frogs as a guide, whether they are just starting to date or already in a relationship. I found Lauren's book to be an encouraging tool that helps girls navigate the confusing dating scene while staying true to themselves and their values.

I am a big fan of Lauren Galley's. She's an amazing role model and has an incredible gift of empowering girls through her books and her website, Girls Above Society.

I highly recommend picking up a copy of Kissing Frogs: In Search of Prince Charming.
