My Review

The Gardenia Curse is an exciting middle grade fantasy that easily captivates readers with it's imaginative plot and interesting characters.

When Eva's parents get divorced Eva and her mom move across the country to live with Eva's grandmother. Eva is bitter about the move and about having to start a new school where the kids treat her like an outcast, but nothing compares to the terrifying nightmares she has been experiencing. Each night she is transported to Dreamland and soon discovers the Shadow wants to kill her. With the help of her Dreamguide, Herman and new friend Alice, Eva decides to defeat the Shadow, but does she have what it takes to be victorious?

The Gardenia Curse is well written and the characters are believable adding credibility to the story. The book keeps a fast pace and I was glued to the pages right up to the end. I liked that Eva choose to deal with the school bully in a nonviolent way which proved successful in this situation. I also enjoyed the special bond Eva developed with her grandmother as she learned about her family's history. The Gardenia Curse is an all around great read. I highly recommend picking up a copy.
