Summary: “Think before acting,” her father always warned. But Princess Guinevere is ruled by her heart. Her betrothal to King Arthur has not changed this.
When Guinevere and Cedwyn’s latest adventure takes a dangerous turn, they find themselves embroiled in a life-or-death struggle as foretold by Merlyn’s Goddess of the Stones.
Renegades—foiled in their attempt to kidnap the princess—steal the children of Cadbury Castle to sell as slaves. Guinevere and Cedwyn vow to rescue the children, but a miscalculation puts them all in more danger. The plan quickly unravels, and Guinevere’s impassioned decisions come crashing down as Cedwyn chooses to turn his dream of becoming a knight into reality. Will their courage be strong enough to survive, or will one make the ultimate sacrifice?

"Author Cheryl Carpinello sets the pace right away for this adventure and it does not let up. Although this author writes for reluctant readers, the narrative is not dumbed-down, and kids will enjoy being steeped in great atmospherics, experiencing every nail-biting, heart-pounding moment of the action, danger, and harsh conditions." - Word Magic: All About Books
"Although this is the second book in a series, I didn’t feel I missed anything without having read the first book." - Bound 4 Escape
"This story is full of adventure, magic and heroes, and a learning boost of forging bad and good decisions. I highly recommend this story for youths and for those that have a passion for medieval time and adventures. It was a delight to read and I can’t wait to read The Legend." - Oh My Bookness
"It was very satisfying to see the young Guinevere come to life on the page, and I look forward to reading more of her "backstory" in Cheryl's books. There are dangers and adventures (not to mention unicorns) galore in this book, and I think young readers, especially girls, would find this story quite appealing." - Dorothea Jensen’s Blog

"What an incredible adventure with heroes Guinevere and Cedwyn, young readers can easily relate to them. It’s a book you don’t want to put down until the end and you anxiously anticipate the next book in the series." - A Wildflower Mom
Guinevere: At the Dawn of Legend is a thrilling historical fiction story filled with excitement, danger, and adventure that easily captures the attention of readers young and old.
Guinevere and Cedwyn always have a plan for adventure and this day was no different as they set out to discover the magical stones Merlin had spoken of. Much to their surprise, Merlin's tale was true and the goddess of the stones appeared to reveal their futures, but the excitement was interrupted with a warning of danger and a blood curdling scream. Fearing for the worst, the pair sought safety at the Abbey, but the goddess was right and danger was upon them leaving death and destruction in its wake. Can Guinevere and Cedwyn make it back to the Castle in time to protect the people?
I am a fan of historical fiction and love Cheryl Carpinello's writing style as it easily attracts readers, especially those reluctant to pick up a book. The quick pace, riveting plot, genuine characters, and short chapters make Guinevere: At the Dawn of Legend an appealing read.
It is important to note that I did not read the first book in the series, although I am reading it now, and was able to jump right in without feeling lost. I am eager to see what book three has in store for the characters.
I highly recommend picking up a copy.
