Hey! Don't Forget The Sunscreen! by Kimberling Galeti Kennedy is a wonderfully written story that helps parents address the effects of unprotected sun exposure with their children.

It's Sunday and Stacey is grocery shopping with her family when she sees her friend John. John is shopping with his Aunt Donna. Stacey notices a bandage on Aunt Donna's nose and asks her about it. Donna proceeds to explain how when she was younger she spent time in the sun and never worried about protection. As a result she has developed skin cancer and had to have the cancer removed from her skin. Aunt Donna also explains the different types of skin cancer and what Stacey and other children can do to stay safe.

As a skin cancer survivor, Kimberling Galeti Kenedy has effectively written this story for young children and through easy flowing text and kid friendly illustrations teaches parents and children how to stay safe in the sun while still getting the important nutrients Vitamin D provides for our bodies.

I definitely recommend picking up a copy which is perfect for the upcoming summer season when many of us spend hours enjoying the warmth of the summer sun. I am also partial to the main character's first name! Available at Amazon.com.

I think this book would be great for my son. He's always complaining about having to wear sunscreen.

This book is perfect for encouraging kids to wear sunscreen. My kids complain all the time too. Someday they'll appreciate our efforts!

What a great book. As an Aussie we have the highest skin cancer rates in the world. We don't step out the door without sunscreen and little G at 21 months knows this and reminds us even. Congrats to Kimberly for turning this dreadful disease into a teachable book.
Thanks Stacie for linking it in to The Kid Lit Blog Hop. Cheers Julie

What a great idea for a book! It's amazing how even after years and years of media exposure to the negative effects of sun over-exposure that some people still aren't sun-savvy. Skin cancer, may not be the most prevalent type of cancer but it is one of the deadliest. Hooray for the author who has written this book so that she could share her experience. Thanks for the giveaway - I need to read this book to my husband, never mind the kids! lol

Thanks for linking into the Kid Lit Blog Hop! :-)

Wish there had been something like this when I was young. Having been through several surgeries for melanoma, I totally see the value in this and think that everyone should have a copy of this, child or not.
