The author, Julia Dweck, has done a wonderful job of weaving in the subtle message that it’s important to believe in yourself and to think outside of the box in order to realize life’s wondrous possibilities. This bouncy tale from Sleepy Sheep Productions will leave young readers jumping for joy! Leveled for young readers ages 4 – 8, but relevant to readers of all ages.
Jump! is a lighthearted tale of the splendid path your life can take if you choose to live outside the box.
Jack has spent his entire life in a box, but when his spring breaks he jumps further than he bargained for. To make matters worse he can't find his box. Jack searches everywhere, but has no luck. Just when he thinks all hope is lost a dog named Barker takes him on a jumping adventure he'll never forget.
Jump! is told using fun rhyme and words like hop, spin, and soar give the story movement and energy. I admire how Jack's demeanor changes once Barker introduces him to all the possibilities available without his box. Jack's nervousness and eventual excitement over trying new things teaches children that it's okay to be afraid, but if they stay in the comfort of their box they'll never experience everything life has to offer.
The illustrations are fantastic and enhance this very active tale. Jack and Barker are adorable and the motion of each new "jump" is captured perfectly.
There are also activities at the end of the story to further your child's language and reading skills.
I am so excited about Julia Dweck's new book Jump! and highly recommend picking up a copy. Available on Amazon.
