Linc Adams and the Freddie Fantastic Summer by Becky Van Volkinburg is an amusing story about a boy named Linc Adams and his adventurous summer. Jefferson Lincoln Adams, Linc for short, is on summer vacation and he intends to have a blast right up to the very end. Linc spends most of his summer with the neighborhood kids. They play kickball, which on one occasion ends with Linc discovering a valuable lesson in friendship and forgiveness. They also spend time at the beach where Linc learns feeding the birds isn't a good idea, especially when your mom's fabulous cupcakes are around. Linc's greatest summer adventure comes when he has the chance to meet Freddie Fantastic, his favorite cartoon hero. But, a comedy in errors leaves Linc positive his dream of meeting Freddie Fantastic is over. Linc also learns that washing yourself with your sister's sparkly shampoo can aid in converting the neighborhood bully. With the summer coming to an end Linc and his friends have their "end of the summer" camp out. During the camp out Linc and his friends realize that the Full Moon Dragon and sleeping outdoors don't mix. Finally, summer is ending and the mom's are throwing the kids a send off party. What can happen now? Certainly, something comical if Linc is around. Linc Adams and the Freddie Fantastic Summer is a humorous book full of silly antics and adventure. The book also highlights how Linc figures out that everyone needs friends and being a true friend is the one the most important things you can be.
