Synopsis: I wasn't planning on falling for Ethan Jamison, hell I wasn't planning on our paths ever crossing. He’s the most popular guy at school and a complete player. Me; I’m the perpetual good girl, trying to carry out one last request. But when you make a promise, how far do you go to see it through?
~ Blair
It’s a running joke that I’m a terrible liar, if only people knew the truth. My whole life has been spent making excuses and deflecting questions. I was pretty good at it until Blair Thomas entered my world. She saw through the mask that everyone is so willing to accept. She makes me want to tell her all my secrets, but can she promise to keep them?
~ Ethan
Promises Hurt is an incredible story of life and love that grips your heartstrings and doesn't let go.
Blair Thomas has experienced more loss than a teenage girl should ever have to deal with. As she struggles to get on with her life, an innocent extra credit tutoring session has her face to face with the hottest guy in school. When he turns out to be much more than the cocky musician she expects, Blair finds herself falling head over heals for him.
Ethan Jamison is the most popular guy in high school and can date any girl he wants, but when his grades slip he seeks out the help of a tutor. Expecting to meet a nerd in the library, he is pleasantly surprised to see Blair Thomas waiting for him. Even though they attend the same high school, he's never noticed her before. Ethan is immediately drawn to her and soon finds himself confiding his deepest and darkest secrets to this remarkable girl. He's never known anyone who makes him feel the way she does.
Blair and Ethan make promises to one another, but sometimes promises are hard to keep.
Promise's Hurt is an amazingly moving story that captured my attention from the very first page. I was easily drawn into the world Elle Brooks created with her eloquent use of language. The characters are well developed and the plot is thick with detail. Elle Brooks is an extremely talented writer and her ability shines through in her wonderfully written debut novel.
I highly recommend picking up a copy. Available on August 2, 2014.
