The Story of the Knock-On Wood Shamrocks
~Written and Illustrated by Lynn Darby

The Story of the Knock-On Wood Shamrocks by Lynn Darby teaches children about the age old tradition of "knocking on wood" in a very creative and entertaining way, but something more magical is about to be discovered as well.

Deep in the woods live the DarbO'Lander Elves who spend most of their time bringing joy to mankind. However, one day while they are out collecting food they stumble across an enchanted tree. The tree's trunk  resembles a large fist and a sparkling aura surrounds the the leaves. Immediately they are intrigued by their discovery, but believe it's best to keep the tree a secret until they can figure out what to do.

Finally, coming up with a plan, but vowing not to damage the tree, the elves decide to cut it open and find out what's inside. This proves to be a very delicate task and the elves take great care to ensure the tree will continue to thrive. After their diligent work the tree is opened up. The elves are very nervous about looking inside, but decide they have come to far to give up now. They climb their ladder made of cherry stems and are astonished and amazed by what they see.

Lynn Darby beautifully illustrates this enchanting and intriguing tale. Her diagrams of the elves' ingenious plan to open the tree captures her keen imagination.

The story instills in young readers that unique ideas lie within them eager to emerge and that it's important for them to allow their ideas to flow so they can make a difference in the world.

I recommend picking up a copy which is available in two versions, one for children 9-12 and one for Pre-K. Each book includes a Wooden Shamrock that glows in the dark after it's held under a light source, a Blanket Cloud with velcro backing, and a satin ribbon Tree of Life Bookmark with charm.
