Meet Chris Robertson, Author/Illustrator of I'll Trade My Peanut-Butter Sandwich and other stories

What inspired you to become a children's author?
I've been working in the animation field for many years. I've always had a love for children's books and children's book art. But it wasn't until I had kids of my own that it became clear this is what I really want to do.
How did you come up with the idea for your newest book, I'll Trade My Peanut-Butter Sandwich?
It dawned on me when I asked my 2nd grade son how he enjoyed his lunch I packed him and he told me he traded his peanut-butter sandwich for something better. I couldn't blame him! An idea for a book was born.
How many books have you written?
I'll Trade My Peanut Butter Sandwich is the fourth children's picture book I've written and illustrated. My other books include Little Miss Liberty, The Tooth That's on the Loose!, and Kit and Kaboodle.
What do you think children will enjoy most about your books?
Probably the absurd and ridiculous trades the little boy makes in addition to the bright colorful illustrations. I think it's the type of picture book I would have loved when I was 6. Otherwise, my books tend to reflect different aspects of my personality and hopefully my sense of humor!
What advice would you give to a new author trying to get their book published?
There are more ways of getting your work published today than ever before. Especially when you consider the digital publishing world. There's the Nook, The Kindle, and The Apple Store. Work with an app/ebook developer and get your book digitally adapted. Of course, there's always the conventional way of publishing....the traditional publishing house (ie, Random House, Scholastic, Chronicle Books). Then there's the option of self-publishing: more and more authors are going this route. The important thing is getting your work "out there". Be persistent, stay positive and good things will happen!
Are you currently working on other books?
Currently I'm collaborating with Julia Dweck on her next book Pandora's Box. In addition, I have several ideas for books at different stages of development. I wish there was more time in each day to work on all the projects I have in mind!
