Meet Lawrence Fisher, author of Kill Me Now

Picture
What inspired you to become an author?
I never wanted to be an author. An astronaut, a fireman, superman, maybe. An author no! Never crossed my mind. I did not even want to be a computer programmer. Well, to be honest when I was growing up there were no computers. I always thought that I could never sit in front of a screen for hours on end typing. Then I became a programmer and that is what I ended up doing. A nerd!

So how did I end up being an author as well? Well, I was a shy fellow and after a long hiatus, a lady friend of mine set me up with a date. She is just right for you, she claimed. Not sure how she could say that as I had never spoken to her about dating, but my friend be wise, be she, so I reluctantly agreed. So, it was a cold wintery night, the rain pelting down hard when I went off to meet the girl who was just for me. So I met this girl who was one of the last in line when looks where handed out and I think she was in the ladies room when brains were handed out and I could not get away fast enough. I managed to get away only after she started investigating her XXXX in public. The following day my friend called and asked how it went and I told her and she packed out laughing. I was upset with her and asked her why she was laughing. She replied that I should listen to the way I tell it. I started a blog with that story. But whoa, if this girl was just for me, then why was the date so bad? It turns out that my friend played a trick on me. She had heard from ,who had heard from someone, who had heard from someone, that this girl was not dating anyone and was a pleasant girl. That does not make a match but it did strike a blog! When the blog reached thousands of views, a loyal reader said that I should write a book. So I did, but he did not purchase the book? Can we put peer pressure on him?

How did you come up with the idea for the Kill Me Now?
It was a nice spring evening when I met, Ms Motor Mouth. Young Lawrence, OK, young at heart, shaved, showered and perfumed himself up to meet Ms Motor Mouth, who was a blind date, bestowed upon him by a match maker. Yes, yes, you heard it, a match maker. Read my book for sordid details of the awfulness of this period. So I met Motor for coffee and for the better part of two hours, she did not stop talking. The poor waiter was standing next to her waiting for her to order while she went on and on. The only thing I knew about her soliloquy was that she was complaining about her job. Not explaining, but complaining. Should I have charged her $200 for therapy? My mind wondered and wandered and I look up to the heavens for release. Scotty was not available, but the title was born. Thanks Ms Motor Mouth.

What do you think readers will enjoy most about your book?
They will enjoy the humor and the escapades and the narrow escapes of little me, trying to find a match when I have no idea what I am doing. Actually many guys and girls are like that, but you will never find anyone sitting on a couch. Maybe one day I will find that special someone who I will allow to make my life a living hell.

What advice would you give to a new author trying to get their book published?
My best advice would be NOT to go via assisted self-publishers. I originally published through iUniverse and I had many problems. I will not go in to that here. I am now self-published via CreateSpace, but that is no reason why you should not buy two copies!

Are you currently working on other books?
But of course. I am working on my sequel. I have enough bad experiences that I can fill another book. When I do go out on dates, I tell them about my book and they very often tell me a story of theirs that they suggest I write about. In truth, their experiences were not nearly as bad as mine. Turned my hair grey. I have a working title in the second installment of the Kill Me Now series and it is How I Didn’t Meet Your Mother.
