Meet Mark Williams, Author of The Little Fan Series

What inspired you to write The Little Fan Series?I was aware that there are issues in regards to encouraging young boys to read and that they are particularly poor and disinterested in reading. Therefore, although my original idea was to encourage fathers to read to their children it may also be a way of encouraging boys to read more by giving them something they can connect with and have an interest for.
My idea was for a series of children’s books which focus on a little sports fan. These stories are already being adapted and published to fit various teams, clubs and associations, such as; the little football/soccer fan and the little Welsh rugby fan.
What do you hope children will learn from your books?
The books are intended to tap into the passion and loyalty generated amongst sports fans. However, it also hopes to encourage fathers to read more to their children by giving them something to read that they are passionate about and want to share with their children. However, there is also a theme within the stories which focuses strongly on right and wrong, having responsibilities at home and in the community, as well as, friendship and loyalty. Other ideas are for various limited editions at the end of every season for those teams going to cup finals, winning trophies or being promoted.
How many books are available in the series so far?
I currently have 5 base stories which focus on every day events related to being a little fan such as; going to your first game, being the team mascot, going to your first away game, and meeting a new friend who's a Carer.
