Meet Rebecca Perlman Coniglio, Author of Lily's Little Life Lessons

What inspired you to become a children's author?
I have worked with children in schools and in my private practice for over a decade. I have often used children's books as a way of helping children learn about and cope with challenges. One night I could not sleep, so I went downstairs and started to write a story about what it was like for me to watch my daughter with my mother and the character of Lucky Lily was born.
How did you come up with the idea for Lily's Little Life Lessons?
As I continued writing, I realized I could develop the character of Lucky Lily as a role model for other children. She is a bright eyed brunette who feels lucky for the special people in her life. I believe that feeling grateful for all that you have in your life can lead to a happier and more fulfilling existence. You are never too young to start learning valuable life lessons.
How many books are available in the series so far?
Right now, there are two books available in the series. Lily's Little Life Lessons book one and two. There are two stories in each book.
What do you think children will enjoy most about your books?
The feedback from the children I have read the books to has been very positive and means a lot to me. The children love the colorful and beautiful illustrations, and they really seem to get the message about feeling lucky for the love in your life. I have done an activity where I ask the children what makes them lucky. Most of them have said that they are lucky for their families. The feedback that I am grateful for is that of the real life Lucky Lily, my daughter, who tells me that she is proud of me for writing the Lily books. That is what it is all about!
What advice would you give to a new author trying to get their book published?
I would give a new author real advice such as, this can be difficult and harder than you think, but go for it, work hard, and don't give up!
Are you currently working on other books?
I have many more Lily tales ready to go with different themes. Each one is short and rhymes and touches on a different lesson that children go through as they grow, learn, and develop. I also have a blog on lifethrudivorce.com under kidz zone, Rebecca's Blog. I write to help teens whose parents are going through the divorce process. I am very proud of it and honored to be a part of it.
